Tiny steps

Tiny steps is DoppiNow's "Break it down" helper. It turns the goal you typed into 4 small or 5 tiny first steps, which you can edit before you start. During the session, the next step waits under the scene with a Done button worth +5 XP.

How it works

  1. Tap Break it down

Type a goal, then tap the โ€œโœ‚๏ธ Break it downโ€ pill.

  2. Get 4 or 5 steps

Built-in recipes for 10 kinds of task give 4 small or 5 tiny steps. They work offline.

  3. Make them yours

Edit, add or remove steps: up to 5 steps of 80 characters each.

  4. Tick them off

The next step waits under the scene. Done pays +5 XP per step.

All the details
  1. Once you type a goal, a "โœ‚๏ธ Break it down" pill appears. It stays folded until you tap it.

  2. The steps come from built-in recipes that work offline. There are recipes for 10 kinds of task (email, applications, paying bills, calls, code, design, study, cleaning, planning and writing) and a general one for everything else. Small gives 4 steps and Tiny gives 5 even smaller ones.

  3. You can edit any step, add your own, remove steps or Clear them all. A list holds up to 5 steps of 80 characters each, and Enter moves to the next step. If you change the goal, untouched steps are redone for the new goal.

  4. During the session, "Next tiny step 1/4" sits under the scene. Done pays +5 XP once per step with a small burst. Finishing them all shows "Every tiny step done!" and confetti.

  5. The reminder card also shows your next tiny step, and the recap shows "Tiny steps: X of Y done". The step line hides during a break.

Settings: Optional for each session. There's no setting.

Why it helps with ADHD

In an RCT with 88 adults with ADHD, a successful programme used the cue "If I am having trouble getting started (cue), then the first step is too big (solution is to break task down into parts)" (Solanto et al. 2010). Adult ADHD CBT also included "breaking down overwhelming tasks into steps" (Safren et al. 2010). Both studies tested whole therapy programmes, not this helper.

DoppiNow is a productivity tool, not a treatment for ADHD.

No. Each step you finish pays +5 XP, and unfinished steps cost nothing.
