Start ยท DoppiNow feature

Quick start

Quick start is DoppiNow's keyboard and address-bar way to begin a focus session in one move. Alt+Shift+S repeats your last goal. Typing "rt" and a space in Chrome's address bar starts any goal, at any length from 1 to 240 minutes.

How it works

  1. Press Alt+Shift+S

It starts your last goal with its last length.

  2. Or type rt

In the address bar, type rt 25 write intro and press Enter for a 25-minute session.

  3. Any length

Any length from 1 to 240 minutes works. No number means 25, and open means open-ended.

  4. A quick confirmation

A notification confirms the start. If a session is already running, nothing changes.

All the details
  1. Alt+Shift+S starts your last goal with its last length. If nothing has run yet, a notification explains how to start. If a session is already running, it stays as it is and a notification says "A session is already on" with its goal.

  2. Address bar: type rt, a space, then your goal:

    • rt 25 write intro runs 25 minutes.
    • rt write intro runs 25 minutes, the default.
    • rt open write intro runs open-ended. "open-ended", "free", "โˆž" and "0" work too.
    • Lengths can be 1 to 240 minutes. A unit after the number is part of the length, with or without a space: rt 45m essay, rt 45min essay, rt 45 min essay and rt 45 minutes essay all run "essay" for 45 minutes.
  3. rt on its own restarts your last goal with its last length, and rt 50 restarts it for 50 minutes. While you type, up to 4 matching recent goals are suggested, each with its own last length (or the length you typed first). Picking one starts that goal exactly as written, even one that starts with a number or "free", like "100 pushups" or "free writing practice".

  4. A notification confirms the start, for example "Started: write intro" with "25 min ยท DoppiNow is with you. The icon shows the clock." From the address bar, if a session is already running, a notification says so and nothing changes.

  5. Two more shortcuts: Alt+Shift+R opens the popup, and Alt+Shift+P parks the current tab (see Park it).

  6. Quick starts skip the countdown, tiny steps, the time guess and the note from last time. Those live in the popup.

  7. A quick start doesn't wait for the one-time page-check question (see Goal-aware tab check). If you haven't answered it yet, the session runs with checks on this device only, and the popup asks above the running session the next time you open it.

Settings: Always on. These are Chrome's suggested keys, and Chrome's extension shortcuts page can change them.

Why it helps with ADHD

Design choice

Design choice (no direct study): less friction between deciding and starting.

Quick start: common questions

What does "rt" do in the address bar?

It's DoppiNow's keyword. Type rt, a space and your goal, then press Enter to start a session.

Can I pick lengths the popup doesn't offer, like 45 minutes?

Yes. From the address bar, any length from 1 to 240 minutes works, for example rt 45 essay.

What if a session is already running?

DoppiNow leaves it alone, and a notification tells you so ("A session is already on"), from the address bar and from Alt+Shift+S. End it from the popup first.
